Tennis

While Tampa has a lot of free public tennis courts, a lot of them aren’t maintained very well or get pretty crowded around evening time; therefore I don’t mind paying few $$ to have a guaranteed, well-cared-for tennis court at a convenient time. Court fees usually vary from $2.50/hour to $7.50/hour depending on the location and type of court. These are my two favorite places to play in Tampa:

City of Tampa Tennis Complex at Hillsborough Community College

Address: Hours
3901 W. Tampa Bay Blvd., Tampa, FL
Reservations: 813-348-1173

M-T: 8a.m. - 1p.m. and 3p.m. - 9p.m.
F: 8a.m. - 1p.m. and 3p.m. - 7p.m.
Sat & Sun: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • 12 lighted soft courts & 16 lighted hard courts
  • 4 racquetball courts
  • Practice wall
  • Clubhouse & pro shop
  • Locker rooms & showers

Hard courts are usually easy to get (in the evenings), I never needed a reservation for those. Soft courts seem to be more popular and if you want one held for you - better call ahead and make a reservation.

Sandra W. Freedman Tennis Complex

Address: Hours
59 Columbia Drive, Tampa
(Downtown Tampa on Davis Islands)
Reservations: 813-259-1664
M-F: 8a.m. - 1p.m. and 3p.m. - 9p.m.
Sat & Sun: 8a.m. - 6p.m.
  • 8 lighted soft tennis courts
  • Practice wall
  • Clubhouse and pro shop
  • Locker rooms and showers

This is a very nice complex, waterfront location on beautiful Davis Islands overlooking Harbour Island with a spectacular view of the downtown skyline! Soft courts only, reservation is strongly suggested.
