Hosting photos online

Finding a good hosting gallery for my photos was not hard - a colleague of mine (Mark Flaws) recommended me smugmug and I liked it the moment I saw it. I did shop around a little bit, however the few galleries I checked out weren’t just quite what I was looking for, in terms of the style (the “look and feel”). And I am quite picky when it comes to looks ;) Anyways, smugmug seemed wonderful, and I signed up with them right away. It’s been more than two years since I did that, and I can quite honestly say - I would recommend them to anyone. Here some of the things I like about smugmug:

• The gallery design (colors, layout, menus) looks very elegant
• They offer unlimited storage (you can keep as many pictures/albums on there as you want)
• You’re limited to 4Gb/month bandwidth, however with literally hundreds of people downloading my photos I’ve never came close to reaching the limit
• Excellent statistics of downloads
• Ability to share source files (the originals)
• Excellent customization of every individual album - you can set if it’s public or private, what information to display and what not, how to sort this particular album, whether to allow user comments or not, and so on
• Easy sharing of the pictures (links for sharing with friends or publish pictures on forums are provided automatically)
• Easy printing of the pictures (anybody can order prints straight from smugmug. I’ve done that for myself, as well as I printed few enlargements displayed on one of the local art shows - the quality of prints was outstanding
• Lots of advanced customization opportunities (using CSS). You can completely change the look and feel of your entire account
• Finally, the strong community of supporters - their forums, where not only you get to chat with other smugmug users but also smugmug staff is quite active there as well
• Oh, and last but not least - on few occasions I had questions to the customer support (on how to implement this or that) - they’ve always responded within an hour!

The bottom line is - I’m quite happy with the smugmug. If you’d like to visit my photo galleries - be my guest, follow this link: Vadim’s Online PhotoAlbums
